JAM – the telephone answering business based in Borehamwood, won the “E-Business of the Year Award” at the Federation of Small Businesses “FSB Hertfordshire Small Business Awards 2010”.
The glittering awards ceremony was held at Tewin Bury Farm and hosted by BBC Look East’s Susie Fowler Watt. Over 200 local business people attended and the awards were sponsored by, amongst others, TrendMicro™, London Stansted™, Lloyds TSB™ and the University of Hertfordshire.
JAM’s Katie Millman, who attended the awards said “we’re so excited to win this. We’ve embraced technology and the internet to take our business forward, our clients and customers seem to appreciate it and to hear that our fellow businesses in Hertfordshire do as well is a massive bonus”.
“We made a decision last year to look at what the internet, and particularly social media could bring to JAM and our clients. We use internet forums and social media to get to know businesses across the country who might become clients and our software can even respond to commands sent from Twitter, using our ‘Messagebot’ service, in what we believe is a first in our business. Moreover, our adoption of social media makes us very ‘human’ and means we are constantly in contact with our clients, suppliers, prospective clients and other businesses.”
Were there any sore heads the next day? “I was driving so not for me” says Katie, “but we did have a celebration in the office. With over 40 employees we recognise how much this sort of award is a team effort”.
